in which he had recently pledged himself when voluntarily and unanimously selected to represent the town in the Provincial Parliament : « faithfully, fearlessly, and conscientiously », — A true friend and benefactor to the poor — singularly modest and unassuming in public as in private life, his known integrity of principe, sound and depassionate judgment and singleness of mind made him the sought adviser of numbers when in doubt or difficulty — while his deep and unaffected piety proved a source of true support to himself and of comfort to his friend sin the hour of trial. — In short, it may be truly said the (with one exception) Three Rivers community at large and the poorer and labouring classes in particular, could not have sustained a greater loss ; and we may safely join in the feeling remark which burst from one in humble life — « There lies a Man who has not left an enemy ».
