ENGLISH ENIGMAS.
Séparateur

1.

There is a thing that nothing is,
And yet it has a name ;
’Tis sometimes tall, and sometimes short,
It joins our walks, it joins our sports.
And plays at every game.

2.

In every city, town, and Street,
’Tis ten to one but me you meet ;
Sometimes adorn’d in shining gold,
Splendid and brilliant to behold ;
And different characters I wear,
A lamb, or lion, buck, or bear,
A dragon fierce, or angel fair.
These various forms on me behold ;
But though exalted as a chief,
I’m gibbeted like any thief.
