ous n’avons parlé jusqu’ici d’aucun Philoſophe, qui ne ſoit plus ancien que le Chriſtianiſme. Et parce que j’ai fait voir dans la première, partie de ce livre, qu’on n’étoit pas obligé de ſuivre abſolument l’opinion de Saint Thomas, en ce qu’il a crû, que dans la Loi de Grâce & depuis la venuë du Meſſie, la Foi implicite ne pouvoit plus ſauver perſonne ; je juge à propos de donner une Section particuliere à Seneque. Il ne cède peut-être en mérite à pas un de ceux, que nous venons de conſidérer, & on ne ſauroit nier, qu'il n’ait pu prendre connoiſſance de l'Evangile, puiſqu'aiant paſſé la plus grande partie de ſon âge dans Rome, ſa mort ſous Néron ne précéda le Martyre de Saint Pierre & de Saint Paul que de deux ans ſeulement. Voions donc en quels termes nous pouvons parler d’un homme de ſi grand nom, & de ce que nous devons croire d’une vertu, qui a paru avec tant d’éclat dans le monde.
