How did you first come to Wikisource ? What drew you in ?

Je ne me rappelle plus très bien. Il me semble que c’est en contribuant à Wikipédia, où je participais en tant que Wikignome. J’ai trouvé cet outil particulièrement intéressant, parce que j’ai depuis toujours une passion pour la lecture, et que les textes que l’on trouvait ici et là sur le net comportaient fréquemment des erreurs, qu’il était difficile voire impossible de corriger.

I don’t remember well. I think it was while I was contributing to Wikipedia, where I was a Wikignome. I found it was a very interesting too, as I always had a passion for reading, and the text that could be found on the net frequently included errors, that where very difficult, or impossible, to correct.

What kind of thing are you doing and have you done in Wikisource ?

J’ai commencé par corriger et valider des textes déjà en place ; j’ai trouvé la syntaxe assez difficile au début, et j’ai pas mal pataugé. Mais petit à petit, au fur et à mesure que je me familiarisais avec les modèles, et que des outils étaient développés pour faciliter la correction, j’ai commencé à diversifier mes contributions.

J’ai beaucoup travaillé, en particulier, sur l’Encyclopédie, avec Phe, qui nous a bien facilité le travail en automatisant certaines tâches et en développant des gadgets ; la première étape est achevée : toutes les pages (plus de 16000) ont été relues, et les articles sont presque tous créés dans l’espace principal. Actuellement, je travaille toujours à la correction et à la validation de textes (j’en importe parfois sur Commons) ; je m’occupe également de petites corrections sur les textes déjà en place et de formatage de textes pour l’export en epub ; enfin, j’essaie d’apporter de l’aide aux nouveaux, parce que je me rappelle de mes débuts un peu difficiles.

I began by the correction and validation of texts that where already installed ; I found the syntax difficult at the begining, and had a lot of problems. But, as I was becoming more and more familiar with the templates, and tools were developped to ease the correction, I began to diversify my contributions.

I’ve been working a lot on Diderot and D’Alembert’s “Encyclopédie” in particular, with Phe, who eased the work a lot, by the automatisation of tasks, and by the creation of gadgets ; the first step is finished : all pages (over 16000) have been reread, and articles have been created in the Main space. Now, I’m working on the correction and validation of texts (and sometimes import books on Commons) ; I also take care of small corrections of texts already uploaded, and format them for epub export ; finally, I try to help the beginners, because I remember how it was difficult at the begining for me.

What do you think Wikisource’s greatest achievement is so far ?

La mise en place de la relecture des textes via la comparaison avec le fac-similé est une caractéristique capitale et vraiment précieuse.

The possibility to read and correct text by direct comparison with the scan is really the most important and precious tool we have.

How do you see the future of Wikisource ?

Le développement de l’export en epub (déjà plutôt au point) ; la facilitation de la collaboration pour les nouveaux ; une meilleure connaissance de Wikisource par le grand public.

The development of epub export (that already works rather well) ; easing the collaboration for beginners ; developping the knowledge of the existence of Wikisource in the public.
