see so little of a gentleman by whose labours I have been so much enlightened. I hope however to enjoy the pleasure of your correspondence. Any letter addressed to me 16 Berkeley Square will be forwarded to me. Accept my last work as a testimony of my esteem.

I am, dear Sir, very truly yours H. DAVY.

I regard the muride de plomb, hornlead of plumbane as composed o£= 398 of lead and 134 of chlorine, the submuriate of lead as composed of 138 muríatic acid, two proportions, and four proportions of oxide of lead, i. e. 398 + 30 X 4 or 1732 parts of oxide of lead. If water be formed by the combination of the hydrogene of the muriatic acid with the oxygene of the lead, it will then consist of 134 of chlorine, 398 lead, and 1374 of oxide of lead, or three proportions of oxide of lead, and it appears to me to be a law of the combinations of chlorine that when one proportion of chlorine, i. e. 67, is combined in a compound with oxygene, the oxygene is always as 3 or as 6 as in the hyperoxymuriates of sodia and potassa.

I ordered a copy of my book to be sent to you. I shall be glad to profit by your critical observations in a second
